August 16, 2026, 9am, God’s Declaration of Creation

Today we kick of a new sermon series on the book of Genesis. The book of Genesis is the great book of beginnings in the Bible. Genesis permits us to view the beginning of a multitude of truths that shape our daily life: the creation of the universe and the planet Earth; the origins of plant and animal life; and the origins of human beings, marriage, families, nations, industry, artistic expression, religious ritual, prophecy, sin, law, crime, conflict, punishment, and death. Genesis is the first of five books that make up the Torah (the law). It begins where we begin, in the beginning. Let’s take a look at the impact of Genesis 1:1; “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.

To accept Gen. 1:1 is to accept the fact that God existed before creation, and that everything was created by Him. This perception is contrary to what is widely accepted in today’s culture, the idea of evolution, the idea of ‘spontaneous generation’ and over billions of years we have eventually arrived where we are today. No acknowledgement of God. To accept God as creator of all things means admitting that He does exist and we are subject to Him as our creator. If God is rejected as Creator, then there are no rules. Everyone can live by ‘their own truth’ (Judges 21:25). Truth, morality, purpose, and life itself are relative terms and can be defined in whatever way is most convenient.
